1925년 독일 베를린의 엔지니어였던 휀팅거가 개발하여, 1936년부터 2년간 벤츠차에 시험 장착하였으나 양산에는 실패 했으며, 1937년 미국 GM 뷰익차에 탑재하기 시작하여, 1949년 GM 시보레가 실용화 하였다. 

Developed by Wettinger, an engineer in Berlin, Germany in 1925, it was tested and installed in a Benz car for two years starting in 1936 but failed to produce it. In 1937, it was put into practical use by GM Buick, which was first fitted to Chevrolet in the United States.
