R.E.올스는 1901년 유명한 올즈모빌(커브드 대쉬,curved dash)을 425대 제작하여 세계최초의 자동차 양산제조업체가 되었다.
 세계에서 처음으로 한 모델의 자동차를 많이 만들어낸 랜섬 올스는 미국 최고의 자동차 회사인 제너럴모터스의 기초를 닦아 놓은 엔지니어였다. 랜섬 올스는 20세에 자기집 창고에서 엔진을 만들었고, 이로부터 10년후인 1896년 드디어 첫 자동차를 만들어 냈다.
2마력에 최고시속 20km를 낼 수 있는 차를 만들었지만 공장을 세울 돈이 없었던 그는 다행히도 그의 차에 반한 한 사업가의 도움으로 올즈모빌 자동차 회사를 세웠다.
그러나, 첫 출고도 하기전인 1901년 공장 직원의 실수로 화재가 나서 공장은 물론 설계도면까지 모두 태워 버렸다.  회사 직원들이 합심하여 다시 공장을 세우고, 화재 당시 가까스로 구해낸 자동차 한 대를 이용해 다시 만들어 낸 차가 바로 유모차 모양으로 매우 단순하게 생긴 커브드 대쉬였다.
이 차는 파격적으로 싼 값인 650달러에 팔기로 했으나 너무 단조로와 보이는 디자인 때문에 잘 팔리지 않았다.  그래서 판매를 촉진할 수 있는 방법을 고민하다가 이 차로 미국 최초의 장거리 자동차 여행이라는 이벤트를 계획하였다.
디트로이트에서 뉴욕까지 장장 1,400km에 이르는 거리를 7일만에 완주함으로써 미국인들을 놀라게 했고, 이 뉴스가 신문지상에 보도되면서 일주일만에 2천여대가 팔렸다.
올스는 판매에 더욱 박차를 가하기 위하여 1905년초 미대륙 횡단에 도전하여 2대의 커브드 대쉬로 뉴욕을 출발 동부 포트랜드항까지를 44일만에 거뜬히 완주함으로서 그 인기는 절정에 이르었다.

 Ransom Ols, the world's first manufacturer of many cars, was the architect of the foundations of America's top automaker, General Motors. Ransom Ols built the engine in his warehouse at the age of 20, and 10 years later in 1896, he finally built the first car.
Having built a car that could spin up to two horsepower and run at 20 km/h, but had no money to build a factory, he fortunately built the Oldsmobile Motor Company with the help of a businessman who was in love with his car.
However, before the first shipment, a factory worker accidentally set fire to a fire in 1901, burning the factory and all of its design drawings.  Company employees worked together to build a factory again and the car that they managed to rebuild from the fire was a stroller.
The car was supposed to be sold for an exceptionally low price of $ 650, but it didn't sell well due to its dull looking design.  So after thinking about ways to boost sales, he planned an event called the first long-haul car trip to the United States with the car.
The seven days of stretch over the 1,400-kilometer stretch from Detroit to New York shocked Americans and sold more than 2,000 units in a week when the news was reported in newspapers.
Ols challenged the Americas early 1905 to leave New York with two Kubrand Dashes, the peak of popularity in 44 days to get to Port Portland, East.
