우리나라 자동차 1호는 1955년 서울에서 자동차정비업을 하던 최무성씨 3형제가 지프의 모양을 따라 만든 시발 자동차이다. 초기에는 값이 너무 비싸 인기가 없었으나 그 해 10월 산업박람회에서 이승만 대통령으로부터 상을 받으면서 인기를 얻게 되어 1962년 차량 생산이 끝날 때까지 총 2,700여대가 팔렸다. 

프레드릭 윌리엄 란체스터가 1885년에 만든 영국 최초의 고유모델로 1기통 엔진을 뒤쪽 의자 밑에 설치하고 체인으로 뒷바퀴를 구동하는 방식이었다. 

1885년 독일 칼 스루우에社의 칼 벤츠가 제작한 모토바겐은 세계 최초의 가솔린 자동차이면서 동시에 독일 자동차 1호로 기록되어 있다(1886년,특허번호 37345호). 무게는 254kg, 시속 13~16km의 3륜 차였다. 엔진은 1분에 400번을 회전, 0.85마력을 내는 단기통 엔진이었다.
첫해에 만든 두 대중 한 대는 뮌헨의 도이치 박물관에 아직도 달릴 수 있는 상태로 보관되어 있다.

1899년 기마장교 출신의 조반니 아넬리가 직접 자동차 회사를 세워 만든 자동차로 엔진은 1기통 3.5마력, 최고시속은 30km였다.  

1893년 미국의 듀리 형제가 만든 최초의 시판용 가솔린차로 1기통 4마력의 엔진을 갖고 있었다. 

1917년 미쓰비시 중공업이 개발 생산한 일본 최초의 시판용 자동차로 4기통 1846cc 배기량의 엔진을 갖고 있었다. 

프랑스 루이스 사라쟁은 1889년 다임러로부터 벨기에 및 파리에서의 다임러 엔진을 얹은 자동차 판매권을 취득하여 파나르 르바소라는 세계 최초의 자동차 메이커 회사를 설립, 1892년 프랑스 최초로 2기통 3.8마력, 최고 시속 20km의 파나르 에 르바소를 생산하였다.

Frederick William Lanchester, Britain's first unique model in 1885, installed a one-cylinder engine under the rear seat and operated a chain behind the wheel.

Created by German company Karl Benz in 1885, Motobargen was listed as the world's first gasoline car and German car number 1 (Patent No. 37345, weight of motor vehicle No. 37345). The engine was a single-track engine that ran 400 times a minute and gave off 0.85 horsepower.
One of the two cars from the first year is still kept running at the Deutsche Museum in Munich.

In 1899, a car built by a motor company founded by a horse-and-riding officer, Giovanni Anelli, had one cylinder of 3.5 horsepower and a top 30 kilometers per hour speed. 

The first commercial gasoline car built by the Durry Brothers in the United States in 1893, had a one-cylinder, 4-horsepower engine.

It was developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1917 and used Japan's first commercial car with an engine displacement of four cylinders at 1846 cc.

France's Luis Sarazan acquired the right to sell the car with the Dimeror engine in Belgium and Paris in 1889. In 1892, he established the first car maker in the world, Fanarbarso, France, in a 20-kilometer car giant.
