1770년 프랑스의 죠셉 퀴뇨가 만든 증기자동차
이차는 최초의 증기자동차 이면서 또 최초의 자동차사고를 낸 차다.

이차를 시운전하던 중 무거운 보일러와 2개의 실린더가 앞바퀴에 얹혀져 구동되어 조향하기 어려웠고, 보일러도 15분마다 물을 보충해야 했으며,브레이크 장치도 갖추지 않아 결국 대형의 것은 파리 교외의 언덕길에서 세우지 못하고 벽에 부딕혀 화재를 일으키므로서 제1호 교통사고를 내고 말았다. 

한편 미국에서 발생한 최초의 교통사고는 1899년 9월 13일 뉴욕 다운타운에서 발생했다.
당시 숨진 사람은 부동산 브로커였던 헨리 헤일 블리스라는 사람으로 뉴욕 74가와 센트럴 파크 웨스트 교차지점에서 전차에서 내리다 달려오던 전기자동차에 받힌 것으로 뉴욕타임스는 전하고 있다. 당시 블리스는 전차에서 내리는 한 여인을 도와 주고 있었는데 전기자동차가 미처 그를 피하지 못하고 들이 받았던 것이다. 이 사고로 블리스는 병원으로 옮겨졌으나 곧 사망했다. 최초의 교통사고를 낸 사고차량은 당시 유명한 의사의 승용차였으며 운전기사가 운전을 하고 있었다.

During the second test, heavy boiler and two cylinders were driven against the front wheel so it was hard to resound. As a result, the boiler had to be reintroduced from the fire wall every 15 minutes, and finally the brake system was set in the car.

Meanwhile, the first car accident in the United States occurred in downtown New York on September 13, 1899.
The person who died at the time was a real estate broker named Henry Hale Bliss, who was hit by an electric car running from a tram at the intersection of New York Avenue and Central Park West. At the time, she was helping a woman get off a tram when an electric car did not avoid her, and they received her. Because of the accident, Bliss was taken to the hospital but she soon died. The first car accident was a car owned by a famous doctor and was driven by a driver.
