우리나라 최초의 자동차업계 여성 영업소장의 주인공은 현대자동차 서울목동 파리공원 영업소의 김화자 소장(1955 ~ )이다. 김씨는 강원도 속초 출생으로 1978년 동덕여대 가정학과를 졸업했다.
1987년 3월 23일 현대자동차에 부녀영업사원으로 입사한 후 1996년 9월까지 영업현장에서 활발히 활동하여 여러차례 포상을 받기도 했으며, 10월부터는 관리직사원으로 전직하여 영업소 관리과장으로 근무했다. 1997년 1월 10일, 입사한지 11년만에 자동차 판매의 꽃인 영업소장으로 임명되었다. 1997년 8월에는 파리공원 영업소가 현대자동차 상반기 최우수 영업소로 선정되었다. 여성 영업소장의 영업소가 최우수 영업소로 선정된 것은 자동차업계에 매우 이례적인 것이며, 직장 내에서 여성인력의 지위향상과 능력발휘 기회 확대의 모범적인 사례로 평가되고 있다.
