볼보(Volvo)사는 스웨덴의 닉스 볼린이 발명한 스리 포인트 안전벨트를 1959년 특허 냈으며 1968년에는 이너시아롤(Inertiaroll) 기술을 개발했다. 미국 고속도로 교통안전국의 통계에 따르면 이 안전 벨트의 착용으로 미국에서만 최소한 10년간 55,600명의 사망자와 1,300,000건의 부상을 예방할 수 있었다고 한다.
의료비용으로 환산하면 1천5십억달러에 달하는 금액을 절약한 금액이다. 

Volvo (Volvo) patented a three-point seatbelt invented by Nicks Bolin of Sweden in 1959 and developed Inertiaroll technology in 1968. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the use of the seatbelt has prevented 55,600 deaths and 1.3 million injuries in the United States alone for at least 10 years.
That is a saving of nearly $ 150 billion in medical costs.
